I’ve been horribly neglectful of the blog here – and equally horrible about providing updates on everything that’s been happening. Well, I’m surely missing plenty, but here’s a quick overview of at least a few cool tidbits for you to check out!
A NEW BOOK! This fall brought about the release of Alfred’s Drumset Method, Book 2, co-authored by myself and the awesome Dave Black. Over the years, I’ve walked hundreds of students through the original book in this series, so taking part in the creation of its follow-up has been a huge honor. Check it out on Amazon.
NEW RECORDING! I’ve been too excited for too long to get to share this: I contributed drums and percussion (as did the amazing Scott McPherson) to the new M. Ward album, MORE RAIN, coming out on Merge Records on March 4th! The first single, Girl From Conejo Valley, was just released and you can give it a listen right here.
AND MORE RECORDINGS! I’ve been in the studio quite a bit the past few months and the product(s) of those sessions will begin going public in the months ahead. In addition to the M. Ward album mentioned above, I’ve drummed on forthcoming releases by Haley Johnsen, Amanda Richards, Rob Wynia, the Hottman Sisters and The Breaking.
MINI TOUR! To coincide with the release of our brand new single, I’ll be hitting the road with Haley Johnsen and her band for a bit next month. We kick things off in Portland, Oregon on Wednesday, January 6th (8pm at Mississippi Studios) and then head to California to play the following dates. If you’re in or near any of these cities, we’d love to see you out at a show!
Thursday, January 7: Hotel Utah Saloon, San Francisco
Friday, January 8: The Deer Lodge, Ojai
Saturday, January 9: Hotel Cafe, Los Angeles
Sunday, January 10: Don Quixote’s International Music Hall, Felton
INTERVIEW! I recently had the pleasure of chatting it up with fellow percussionist Paul Jennings, as a guest on his new Play Cajon podcast! We discussed travel, gigging, books and other nonsense. Give a listen right on his site!
I’m sure there’s plenty more that I’m completely forgetting to share, but all that should keep you busy for a little while. Check out all of the above and, once you do, drop a comment and let me know what you think. Also, give me (and the other readers here) an update on your own happenings!
Ciao for now!
